During the Kosovo War the G-4 was used in several combat missions attacking KLA positions in Kosovo at treetop level without loss. However, seven G-4 aircraft from the Leteće Zvezde display team were destroyed in an underground tunnel hangar at Golubovci Airbase, as a result of a NATO airstrike which set off a chain of sympathetic fires and explosions inside the tunnel which was overcrowded with various, mostly obsolete aircraft. The fire and explosions spread destroying all aircraft inside the tunnel, taking three days to contain. The officer responsible for the tunnel hangar was disciplined for incompetence. Only two G-4s have been involved in fatal accidents in its 27 years of service; the latest involved a Serbian G-4 Super Galeb which crashed at Batajnica Air Base near Belgrade on 24 September 2008 while practicing for an upcoming air show, pilotted by Ištvan Kanas
