EADS North America oversees the US operations of EADS, the world's second largest aerospace and defense company. EADS CASA is the world leader in the light and medium military transport aircraft sector, and produces the combat-proven CN-235 and C-295 family of airlifters. The C-295 is a stretch design of the Spanish/Indonesian CN-235. Approximately 250 CN-235s and C-295 aircraft have been sold to some 30 military and governmental users in 24 countries -- including for the US Coast Guard's Deepwater program maritime patrol aircraft, which will be delivered beginning in 2007. Currently in full production, the C-295 is in service with the air forces of Spain, Poland and Jordan. Additionally, the Brazilian air force placed an order for 12 C-295s in April, and the aircraft has also been selected by Switzerland and Portugal for their transport requirements. EADS CASA North America recently completed construction of an integrated customer support center in Mobile, AL, to service its growing American customer base. CN-235 (Wallpaper 4). The C-295 and CN-235 can carry the same pallets as the CH-47, providing efficient interoperability with the Raytheon/EADS CASA fixed-wing aircraft and the US Army's Chinook rotary-wing fleet. The combat-proven, FAA-certified CN-235 airlifter is backed by a worldwide support network, and is a stretched-fuselage version of the CN-235 multi-role transport – which has been ordered by 30 military/government users in 24 countries, including the US Coast Guard for its Medium Range Surveillance Maritime Patrol Aircraft mission. A multi-state tour in May 2005 brought the C-295 and CN-235 to Army facilities and key conventions across the US to demonstrate the two airlifters' operational capabilities. The tour included stops at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; Redstone Army Airfield and Ft. Rucker, Alabama; and Fort Bragg, North Carolina; as well as the Army Aviation Association of America's annual convention in Orlando, Fla., the annual meeting of the Adjutants General Association of the United States and the 2005 Fixed Wing Conference of the U.S. Army in Little Rock, Ark. CN-235 (Wallpaper 3). CN-235 transport aircraft photo wallpaper gallery 3. CN-235 transport airplane pictures and images collection 3. The CN-235 is a high-wing, pressurised, twin turbo-prop plane with STOL performance that can carry a maximum payload of 6,000 kg. Its maximum cruising speed is 240 Ktas and it has a range of 2,250 nautical miles with a payload of 3,550 kg. The CN-235 has been conceived for tactical military transport and is capable of operating from unpaved runways and has excellent low level flying characteristics for tactical penetration. Its large cargo hold and hydraulically operated rear ramp allow easy access for vehicle transport, standard 88 x 108 pallets, making it the ideal complement to the Hercules C-130. It can carry most combat aircraft engines and may also be subjected to a quick change configuration. The CN-235 can be used to transport up to 48 paratroopers who may jump out either of the two side doors or the rear ramp. CN-235 (Wallpaper 3). CN-235 transport aircraft photo wallpaper gallery 3. CN-235 transport airplane pictures and images collection 3. The CN-235 is able to carry out high and low altitude (HAD, LAPES) in-flight drops distribution of up to four tons of supplies to forward troops. On medical evacuation missions, the plane can transport up to 21 stretchers, with four medics. Although the CN-235 was initially the result of cooperation between CASA and ITPN of Indonesia, CASA has developed its own series and versions, with increases in weights, ground performance improvements, etc. CASA's aircraft is therefore the product of continuous development, not just in the military sphere, but also in civil areas and this is illustrated by the fact of having been approved by the FAA, FAR-25, JAR-25 and the Australian CAA among others. The CN-235 is the ideal platform for the development and integration of a wide variety of versions like the Maritime Patrol Version (PERSUADER) Electronic Warfare (ESM/ECM and ELINT/COMINT), Early Warning, Navigation School, Photogrammetry, etc. The CN-235 is a leader in its class, with more than 220 aircraft sold to 29 operators and about 500,000 flight hours. The fully air conditioned and pressurised cabin can be configured for passenger transport, for mixed passenger and cargo or for all-cargo operations. For passenger transport, the cabin will accommodate up to 44 passengers seated four abreast, 57 fully equipped troops or 48 paratroops. Paratroops can drop from two rear doors. In the medical evacuation role, the aircraft can transport 24 litters (stretcher patients) and four medical crew. CN-235 (Wallpaper 3). CN-235 transport aircraft photo wallpaper gallery 3. CN-235 (Wallpaper 2). CN-235 transport aircraft photo wallpaper gallery 2. CN-235 transport airplane pictures and images collection 2. EADS CASA of Spain and Dirgantara Indonesia (Indonesian Aerospace), formerly IPTN of Indonesia, formed the company Aircraft Technology Industries, or AirTech, to develop the CN-235 aircraft. Project teams in Spain and Indonesia simultaneously began the design work in 1980 and organised simultaneous aircraft roll out ceremonies in 1983.The production version of the aircraft first flew in 1986 and entered service in 1988. EADS CASA has developed a series of variants of the 235, with improved payload, performance and maintainability. The CASA family of 235 series aircraft have gained civil certification by the United States Federal Administration, the European Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) and the Australian CAA Aviation Authority. The new CASA CN235-300 provides improved hot and high performance, in-flight refuelling for extended range and longer time on station, higher-rated pressurisation and optional twin nosewheels to replace the single nosewheel for improved operation on short and unprepared runways. CN-235 (Wallpaper 2). CN-235 transport aircraft photo wallpaper gallery 2. CN-235 transport airplane pictures and images collection 2. The take-off run is just 1,217m and the plane can transport loads up to 6,000kg. The maritime patrol variant has been selected for the US Coast Guard's Integrated Deepwater System and prime contractor Lockheed Martin received a contract in February 2004 to deliver an initial two CN-235-300 maritime patrol aircraft from 2007. The first aircraft, designated HC-235A, was delivered to Lockheed Martin, for integration of the mission systems, in December 2006. Operational Evaluation will begin in 2007. All 36 aircraft are to be in service by 2017. The flight deck accommodates the pilot and co-pilot and a mission crew member. The Series 300 CN-235 cockpit is night-vision-goggle compatible and fitted with twin head-up displays. The electronic flight and information system, a Rockwell Collins EFIS-85B (14), has four 152mm x 203mm (6in x 8in) liquid crystal displays. The aircraft is equipped with an open-systems avionics suite with MIL-STD-1553B and ARINC 429 military digital databuses, a Thales (formerly Sextant) Avionics Topdeck colour weather, flight data recorder, cockpit voice recorder, advanced terrain collision avoidance system (enhanced TCAS) and Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS).
